Downtown Browns is produced by a core team of radical creators based in Los Angeles.
We took care casting and writing diverse characters, and perhaps more importantly, we also made an active decision to try and build an all-women-of-color-crew, knowing that our collective sensibilities and experiences would strengthen the diversity of perspectives represented in the series.
Tonia Beglari, co-founder of Browntourage, has a background in social criticism and creative production and is now a M.F.A. in Interactive Media & Game Design at the University of Southern California.
Jazmin Garciais an independent filmmaker who has produced viral short videos exploring modern Xicano identity, music videos, and experimental shorts.
Emilia Yangis a PhD student from Nicaragua at the Media Arts + Practice program at the University of Southern California. Emilia's work uses playful critical media as a tactical political tool.
Luciana Chamorrois an Anthropology PhD candidate at Columbia University with a background in documentary filmmaking, currently researching revolutionary movements, popular politics and emotions.
Together, we combined our social justice sensitivities, fresh aesthetics, and creative tech wits to produce thoughtful interactive film experiences that promote intimacy and understanding with women of color.
